I'm glad you're here to learn more about me and how therapy can be the place for you to heal, explore and grow. Through therapy, I provide a space where you can feel understood, supported and empowered to make the changes you seek.
I truly believe that effective therapy is grounded in a genuine and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist.
My style in session is conversational to help build connection, and I give feedback in an empathetic and non-judgmental way. Together, we can work through the experiences, thought patterns and behaviors that are negatively impacting your life.
HI THERE!
I'm Mary
about
Through therapy, I can help you learn effective ways to manage difficult feelings, decrease depression and anxiety, and address behaviors that impact your relationships and life. Therapy can also be a place where I can guide you to develop a better understanding of yourself by gaining insight about the connections among past experiences, current issues, and your behaviors. This type of insight can help you have lasting change.
I’m an Atlanta native, and I attended the University of Georgia where I earned my B.S. in Psychology. After taking a couple of years to gain some life and career experience in the real world outside of college, I decided that I had to connect my career with what I was initially passionate about...people, their stories, and mental health. I then attended Mercer University where I completed my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
As a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia, I welcome all cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations and genders.
Prior to starting my private practice, I was a therapist at Skyland Trail, a nationally recognized residential treatment facility. As a Primary Counselor at Skyland, I provided individual and group therapy to clients diagnosed with psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder) and mood disorders (depression, bipolar I and II disorders). Many of my clients also struggled with anxiety, past traumas, relationship issues and substance abuse issues. I also worked closely with family members of clients to provide education about mental illness and guidance on how to best support their loved one in treatment.
After Skyland, I focused on building my private practice. I also had the opportunity to provide therapy to young adults struggling with mood disorders, psychosis and substance abuse issues at Hope Homes Recovery Residence. My time working at Skyland and with Hope Homes taught me the importance of providing comprehensive care for my clients by collaborating with psychiatrists and other providers as needed.
